The development of translational spaces such as a GAPP lab to support design and development of assistive technologies, and a Mobility Garage for patients, doctors, and engineers to work together to design, build, and modify mobility devices facilitates getting patients back to their favorite activities and everyday living. Inside and out, the design is integrated into the surrounding landscape, with connections between the natural environment and interior spaces through material choices and both natural and artificial lighting. Therapy space is incorporated throughout the building circulation and healing gardens to transform the patient experience to one that empowers them at every stage of their recovery, including the development of individualized controls in patient rooms.
