Mara Baum, FAIA, LEED
Fellow, EDAC, WELL AP
(Chair)
Mara Baum, FAIA, is a passionate leader
committed to creating healthier, more
sustainable buildings and communities. With
more than two decades of experience, she is
an internationally known expert in creating
sustainable health care environments. She
has focused much of her career on complex
academic medical center projects, providing
leadership related to sustainability, carbon
emissions reduction, climate resilience, and
health and well-being. She works closely with
her clients to ensure that solutions exceed
sustainability goals while also aligning with
budget, operability, and infection prevention
criteria. Outside of the studio, Mara is a
longtime educator with Boston Architectural
College, where she teaches Sustainable
Design for Healthcare Facilities and Green
Buildings and Health.
Ellen Bailey Dickson,
FAIA
During a recession in 1991, Ellen Bailey
Dickson, FAIA, launched her practice as
a sole proprietorship. She strategically
aligns her goals to grow with her dedication
to contribute to social purpose and user
advocacy through public architecture.
Establishing a framework based on best
practices and staff development, Ellen has
guided her firm to a balanced portfolio,
weathering economic and market fluctuations
and securing increasingly significant
commissions along the way. Over the years,
she has grown her firm, which according to
Diversity Business' analysis is Illinois' 25th
woman-owned business, highest-ranked
woman-owned architectural business in
the State of Illinois, and the 358th womanowned
business nationally. Recognized in
professional and business arenas of influence,
Ellen has been awarded an AIA Fellowship,
AIA Chicago Young Architect of the Year,
National Association of Women Business
Owners Business Woman of the Year, and
International Enterprising Woman of the Year.
Susan Chin, FAIA,
Hon. ASLA
Susan Chin, FAIA, Hon. ASLA, principal
of DesignConnects, is an accomplished
licensed architect, urbanist, and civic
leader. She provides leadership and advice
to government, nonprofits, and developers
on culture, architecture, preservation,
landscape, urban design, planning, and
policy. She is an inspirational and insightful
leader, partnership builder, discussion
generator, lecturer, and design juror. Susan
currently serves on the AIA Committee
on Design Advisory Group, AIA Board
Knowledge Committee, and NYC Public
Realm Improvement Fund Governing Group.
From 2011 to 2019, she led Design Trust for
Public Space, a nationally and internationally
recognized incubator that transforms,
catalyzes, and ennobles New York City's
underused space and landscape with public
agencies, community collaborators, and
private sector experts.
