Designed by Brian Graham, the Ethan Collection,
exemplifies a seamless blend of form and
function, where minimalist design meets the
complex needs of healthcare environments. The
collection ensures ease of use, featuring practical
storage solutions and durable surfaces that withstand
the rigors of a healthcare setting.
The thoughtful consideration of patient comfort
is evident in the inclusion of a bench in the
Ethan wardrobe, providing a space for patients to
sit and prepare mentally for medical procedures.
Similarly, the elevated solid-surface top of one of
the bedside units brings convenience within the
patient's reach, enhancing their sense of autonomy
and control over their environment.
The fusion of neoclassical elements with modern
practicality not only elevates the aesthetic of
healthcare spaces but also imbues them with a
sense of tranquility and familiarity.

Gold Award in Surfacing
Materials & Finishes
Kwalu updated the materiality to produce a
more realistic wood appearance without the
drawbacks of traditional wood in healthcare
environments. Named Protea, after South
Africa's national flower, this hardy plant
thrives in harsh conditions, reflecting the material's
durability, longevity, and resilience in
demanding environments.
Protea is bleach cleanable, resistant to healthcare
chemicals and graffiti, and backed by a
10-year guarantee on finish and construction.
The reformulation includes proprietary elements
that enhance the woodgrain appearance,
making the material more inviting while reducing
shine to offer a warmer, more natural feel.
Additionally, the flooring is moisture impervious,
smooth, easy to clean, and compatible with
all EPA-approved disinfectants, including undiluted
bleach.
