DE SIGN WITH LEFT King looked to her past projects for design features she could adapt to her own kitchen. A built-in desk was one of these; other ideas were the buff et area and super-sized pantry. RIGHT A wide ledge along the bottom of the buff et cabinets is a convenient set-down or serving spot for small plates. It's also a subtle material accent, extending the natural wood of the desktop into the expanse of painted cabinets. RIGHT Behind the cooktop, the dark gray color of the stone backsplash mediates the stainless steel of the appliance and the lighter tones of the countertop and cabinets. RIGHT While using a variety of cabinet pulls adds an eclectic note to the design, keeping the fi nish consistent avoids a too-random look.
