ince I last wrote one of these, I have done a lot! In August, I took a
delayed trip to Sonoma, Napa and San Francisco to celebrate our
50s with some of my best girlfriends. Th ree of us had already crossed
over the 50 threshold when we fi nally took this trip - COVID kept
us waiting a year or so - but we had an amazing time. Who knew
nine wineries could never be enough with all the choices out there?
Th is month, I celebrated my annual birthday trip with my dad (who also
celebrates another year over Labor Day weekend), my stepmom and some
of our dear friends. We went to Ormond Beach near Daytona this time, and
the weather held out for us even though there was a hurricane lurking nearby.
I absolutely loved the houses we stayed in on both trips - although they
were completely diff erent, and neither of them carried my style. Th e Sonoma
house felt comfy - like a visit to grandma. Th e kitchen was open, large
and not too dated, and the primary bath I used was somewhat upgraded
with a fl oating double vanity. Th ere was a drought in California, so we were
unable to use the tub, but the winner of our 2022 Bathroom Product of the
Year or the winner of the Tub category would have been helpful to have if
we were permitted to.
Th e house in Daytona had to be inspired by a " Miami Vice " mansion. It
had a lot of white and metal elements, and we defi nitely had plenty of room.
Th e kitchen was huge - with the island in the middle as I like - but I would
have preferred the winner of our 2022 Kitchen Product of the Year in lieu
of the built-in beverage storage in the refrigerator. And as many times as we
did dishes, it would have been awesome to have the Dishwasher category
winner at this house.
Both homes had amazing outdoor spaces. Th e Sonoma exterior was a
garden of plants, fruits and vegetables; our property manager furnished us

with as many tomatoes as possible. Th e Daytona
house had the quintessential pool space (heated,
salted) - complete with an amazing view of the
bay. All we needed was the winner of our Outdoor
Off erings category in the mix, as the Big Green
Egg is a nut I have yet to crack.
I am sure we could have benefi ted from having
all the 2022 KBB Product Awards winners at
both houses, but the company and experiences
were all that really mattered. Now in my own
home, it's a diff erent story of course.
Congrats to this year's 2022 Product Awards
winners - one each for kitchen and bath overall,
and we gave props to 21 category winners as well.
We would also love to thank this year's judges for
taking the time to select the winning products -
always a daunting but eventful task.

