STAYING SOUND DURING ALL SEASONS
A
s we roll into summer - my how time
fl ies! - I am thinking back to how eventful
my spring has been. I've shared several
meals with industry contacts, former colleagues
and dear friends, and we touched
on everything from binge-worthy TV
shows to the hurdles of getting older to many
fond memories we've shared.
I celebrated long-lasting friendships at birthday
gatherings - one that included karaoke
and dancing - and an annual cabin trip to the
North Georgia mountains, where many games
were played. My dad came for a short visit in
April, and he entertained my friends and I with
snake-sighting stories from our years in Africa
a long time ago.
For my role as a KBB editor, I enjoyed touring
the 2024 Southeastern Designer Showhouse
from Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine.
Certain spaces really resonated with me, and
not all of them were kitchen and/or bath related.
Th e annual Coverings show was in my neck
of the woods this year, and I loved being able
to catch up with other press peeps I have met
during my time with the magazine, as well as
seeing an incredible showcase of tile from Italy,
North America and Spain.
Not-as-fun spring events for me included
some health checkups, and, ironically, I had a cold
during my annual physical. Th e worrier in me
wondered if I should reschedule my appointment
just in case I was contagious, but then I remembered
I was going to a doctor's offi ce, where they
see sick people all day long.
In the middle of all the fun I was having, I
forgot that I am not invincible, and that's how
my minor illness caught up with me. During
my recuperation, I had to remind myself to take
it easy so I could heal. I still kept up with my job
responsibilities as much as I could, as I typically
work from home, but I went to bed early every
night, said no to plans for the week and fed myself
several home-cooked meals.
My job is an extremely busy one - just like yours

I am sure - but I still need to make time to smell the roses, so to speak, and
take breaks for my mental and physical health. It's important in this day and
age of constant input - I currently have 30 windows open on my browser - to
take care of ourselves. It's okay to beg out of a commitment here and there,
and it is fi ne to spend a quiet evening reading with your cat, playing with your
child or going on a nature walk.
Now that I am on the mend, I am looking forward to late spring/early
summer - my favorite time of the year. I have a few things in store, including
a visit to see my uncle in Philly - I have never been! - and crashing at
a bestie's house in Orlando. For KBB, I am touring the new LX Hausys
plant, as well as attending the opening of the Chiarabella showroom, a
brand specializing in kitchen and bathroom solutions.
Tis the season to be healthy, happy and hopefully not too hot!
