Winning Concept: ART:H Belgrade Adaptive Reuse Hotel

Creating a brand new and unique hotel experience which emphasizes the creativity of contemporary
lifestyle is the main design concept of this project. Our mission is to make a vibrant and lively atmosphere
by connecting visitors and artists in one space encouraging their harmony and joint action. Hotel users
would have the opportunity to express their imagination and creativity in the place where they are staying
by creating together with artists whose place of work and residence is exactly this object. In that way, this
building would still function as a very important gathering place for young artists such as musicians, painters,
designers, architects, etc., who represent an alternative cultural scene of Belgrade, and hotel visitors would get
a chance to get to discover and enjoy it.
The hotel would contain common exhibition spaces and spaces for creative work, together with art studios on
separate floors, as well as gathering spaces on each floor filled with various contents such as a library, space
for film screenings, etc. Visitors would also get a chance to learn about the industrial heritage and modern
architecture in Belgrade to which this object belongs. An exhibition space that represents history, the process
of development, and later adaptive reuse would be an inevitable space in this hotel.
The design concept follows the structural logic of the native object, emphasizing it and uniting it with
contemporary materials and technologies to activate original qualities of this cultural and architectural
landmark. The implementation of clean, simple, and authentic design establishes a specific space, and the
use of ecological materials and contemporary technology achieves a higher level of comfort satisfying
everyone's needs and improving health and general wellbeing. Integration of interior and exterior environment
is also a feature of the design concept which is manifested by focusing on large glass surfaces that open
up views of different parts of the city, the integration of vegetation into the interior, as well as in community
spaces on roof terraces. The design also includes the installation of a green roof which enables air
purification and ambient temperature regulation, as well as installation of solar panels to generate renewable
energy for one part of the building.
