Meet Recent NEWH Scholarship Recipients
E'lexis Brewer
Savannah College of Art and Design
Interior Design
$5,000 Diversity in Hospitality Scholarship, a partnership between
HDAC and NEWH, underwritten by Emerald
E'lexis Brewer is a current junior at Savannah College of Art and Design in
Atlanta. She holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from North Carolina State
University and a master's in criminology from Florida State University. For 4.5
years, Brewer served as a probation and parole Officer, dividing time between
working full-time and attending night classes before discovering her passion
for interior design. In her free time, she enjoys watching TV, resting, diving into a good fantasy book, or
spending time with her dog Koda.
" My future outlook is driven by ambition and purpose, " Brewer says. " I aim to make a positive impact in my community as an African American
woman by creating communal spaces that serve neighborhood areas and emphasize inclusivity for everyone. Ultimately, I am committed to creating
a fulfilling and purposeful journey where I can contribute to the world and serve, not help, communities. "
Jacquaia Szucs
University of Nevada Las Vegas
Interior Architecture and Design
NEWH Harvey Nudelman $7,500 scholarship, sponsored by
Fabricut Contract and FR ONE
Jacquaia Szucs is a third-year student at UNLV pursuing a bachelor of
science degree in interior architecture and design. With a foundation rooted in
academic excellence, she graduated from College of Southern Nevada High School with an advanced honors
diploma and an associate of arts degree. Currently, Jacquaia is actively involved in the National Society
of Leadership and Success at UNLV, demonstrating her commitment to both academic and leadership
development.
" After graduation, I am eager to continue my journey at TANDEM interior design firm, where I will be
focusing on growing my skills in hospitality design, " she says. " This opportunity will not only allow me to further develop my expertise but also
contribute to creating immersive and inviting spaces for guests to enjoy. "
Alejandra Gavidia
Florida International University
Master of Interior Architecture
NEWH $5,000 Cruise Ship Interiors Scholarship, sponsored by
Cruise Ship Interiors
" I am Peruvian, almost 30 years old, and graduated from the Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de América
Latina with a bachelor's degree in anterior Architecture in 2016. Following my graduation, I worked in a
couple design studios, gaining valuable experience before transitioning to freelance work. However, despite
my efforts, I found it challenging to achieve my professional goals in Peru due to the country's instability
and limited opportunities to establish myself on the global design stage. Determined to turn my dreams
into reality, I made the decision to save money and pursue a master's degree abroad. I am currently in my
second year of the master of interior architecture program at FIU.
" My journey in design has been one of determination and perseverance. I am committed to achieving my goals and making a meaningful
contribution to the field of design. I am eager to continue my education and eventually establish myself as a prominent designer. This scholarship
[is] instrumental in helping me achieve these aspirations, and I am grateful for the opportunity. "
