CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS
Orange County Region
The region's membership event was held in April at the Hive & Honey rooftop bar in beautiful Irvine, California. Bob Olson, president of RD Olson Development, was the guest
speaker and sponsored the event. Bob is an integral part of the Orange County scene, as his company has developed many hotels in the area, including the Marriott Irvine
Spectrum hotel, which is crowned by Hive & Honey with spectacular views.
Sonya Miles, the steering chair, discussed the benefits and importance of joining NEWH, and one lucky attendee, Olivia Lee with Ayres Hotel Group, won a one-year membership.
With 50 people in attendance, the Orange County Region is sure to see great growth this year.

The Vancouver region welcomes new first time NEWH board members Michael Evans, Jennifer Teitlebaum, and Sean Hewlett. The 2024
board has planned some great events, such as a hotel tour in July and a membership headshot event in August.
In February, the region took three students to the NEWH Leadership Conference in Nashville, and three board members. Everyone had a
great experience and Nashville did not disappoint!
The region also hosted its annual trivia night at Moose's Down Under Bar and Grill in
Downtown Vancouver with close to 60 attendees. We braved another snowy forecast for
the second year in a row for networking, mingling, playing games, and answering some
great trivia questions. A big thank you to our team sponsors: Heritage Office Furnishings
(The Wranglers), Durkan/Daltile: (Zero Lucks Given); Formations Inc. (the Eh Team);
Milliken Floors (The Quizzards of Oz); Tarkett Hospitality (The Pantones); Steelcase

Answers); Architex (The Hail Mary's); and Wilsonart (Risky Quizness). This year we paired
one student at each table with other designers to give the students an opportunity to connect with the industry.

Also in February, the region hosted a student roundtable event hosted at the Teknion showroom. A great turnout of 15
students spent a few hours with our panelists: Ruth Jankelowitz, Janks Design; Lisa Juan, Inside Design; Hanna Bernardez,
Zeidler; Kasia Chamberlain, SSDG; and our own scholarship chair Sean Hewlett, A&W Canada, acting as host.
