INTERNATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Meet a Member of the NEWH Paris Chapter

It was a booming business, but in 2020 Delphine Leon Bellancourt shuttered D'après Nous D&B, the
Singapore interior design studio and companion home décor store she founded in 2002. She had
tackled residences, retail, offices for the likes of Hermès, and such retreats as Coco Palm Bodu Hithi
in the Maldives, but Leon Bellancourt knew it was time for a change. " This pivotal moment marked the
beginning of a new chapter in my career, driven by a deeper focus on innovation, sustainability, social
responsibility, and meaningful client engagement, " she recalls.
Buoying her master's degree in interior and furniture design from École Camondo in Paris with
courses at MIT, Columbia University, and the Tuck School of Business during the pandemic, Leon
Bellancourt's purpose took shape. " I wanted to help juniors bridge the gap between their studies and
their first jobs, " she explains.
This led her to unveil the Live Design Project in 2021, a platform that bolsters the portfolios of junior
designers by allowing them to work remotely on projects around the world with the guidance of
supportive mentors.
" Our mission is clear: to launch the next generation of designers into the industry while making
interior design accessible to all-creating a model that no one has done before, " says Leon
Bellancourt.

Juniors, whether in their third year of studies, or pursuing a master's or postgraduate degree, are
matched with established designers who have at least a decade of experience under their belts. At first, the Live Design Project revolved around
residences, but now it has shifted largely toward hotels, particularly small-scale, budget-friendly endeavors.
Previously, junior designers have handled a variety of Club Med locations in Europe and Asia, as well as the COMO Uma Ubud in Indonesia and
ValueSuites Paramatta in Australia, selected through partnerships with schools like Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; KLC School of Design
in London; and Raffles College of Higher Learning in Singapore. Soon, manufacturers will be added to the mix, presenting their products to junior designers
through webinars.
In the future, prospective employers will be able to search the Live Design Project database and " discover fresh talent with hands-on experience, " says
Leon Bellancourt. " Our goal is to become the premier springboard between education and professional life, transforming the way clients, juniors, and the
design community collaborate. " ❙❘❚
