Apparel gets increasingly versatile and ever
more technical-but also more user friendly.

THE NEW OUTDOOR CLOTHING
you will see at the Show spans
travel, work, play, and sports, with
sustainable fabrics and better-than-ever
solutions to keep you
warm and dry. Here's what to look
for on the fl oor.
" Krimson Klover's Spring/Summer
2022 collection is inspired by
the fl urry of outdoor activities in
2020, the upside to the pandemic, "
says Rhonda Swenson, company
owner and CEO. " We've created
versatile crossover collections in
mountain bike, golf, and tennis to
meet demand. " For S22, Krimson
Klover is introducing its largest
summer activewear collection to
date. Made with lightweight, odorresistant
fabrics, its bike collection
transitions to other sports. The
new Mona jersey ($48) is an ultralight,
breathable polyester blend
with stretch and sun protection.
Durable stretch-woven Sienna and
Rory shorts ($42-$48) complement
the tops.
Flylow president Dan Abrams
says that in recent years, Flylow has
seen trail users get more involved
with trail days and working to keep
our outdoor resources pristine.
" They're demanding more durable
and versatile gear they can wear day
in, day out without worrying about
needing a replacement after one
season, " he says. " Our new workwear
line answers the call with the
Trailworks Bibs, Pants, and Shorts,
combining technical features like
a PFC-free DWR and burly nylon
canvas. " Flylow's men's and women's
stout canvas Trailworks Bibs
32
($120) are made for building trails,
pounding nails, Saturday chores,
and more. They're tough but still soft
and pliable, with ample pockets for
storing tools.
" The outdoor market has become
the outside market, " says Tim Fish,
Rab product director. " People are
wearing technical outdoor apparel
more casually than ever before. This
casualization of social and professional
dress codes is blurring lines.
In addition, the trend ofathleisure
is accelerating faster than we have
ever seen before. With the ONE80
collection, the vision was to build
technical apparel that offers functional
performance products that
exceed expectations. It offers products
that fi t Rab's CSR guidelines
while blurring the lines between
outdoor clothing and professional
apparel. " The new collection is
strong and durable, with fl exibility
and unhindered articulation, so you
can move freely and confi dently as
you travel, hike, climb, or commute
to work. It uses fl uorocarbon-free
DWR and recycled face fabrics, and
includes pieces like the Dihedral
Crew ($60) that's ideal for summer
or shoulder-season outings and
travel. It's built with grid-backed
recycled-polyester fl eece, featuring
a crew neck, gusseted sleeves, and
four-way stretch.
For Spring 2022, Allied Feather
+ Down has found a new way to
keep down lofty when wet. Allied is
showcasing ExpeDRY for S22, and
it will be available to consumers in
down apparel, sleeping bags, and
more in fall '22. " Working with
/ OUTDOOR RETAILER SUMMER 2021
Fuze Biotech, we realized we could
use gold nanoparticles applied to
the down clusters to help keep the
insulation chamber drier, " says
Matthew Betcher, Allied Feather +
Down creative director. " Gold has
the ability to excite water molecules
and accelerate the evaporation
rate, while hydrophobic chemicals
create a beading that doesn't allow
the water to saturate. Down in
an insulation chamber needs to
remain dry. Beading water gets
trapped. By taking a closer look at
the insulation chamber, we were
able to develop a better, more
targeted solution to the problem.
We found that down is never really
in direct contact with water like
the industry's 'shake test.' What
causes loss of loft is most often
extreme humidity. We've been
blown away by ExpeDRY's ability
to perform equal to or better than
current hydrophobic chemistry
under any real-world situation. Its
ability to dry faster allows for both
a signifi cant reduction of its carbon
footprint, as it is applied as part of
our processing cycle and reduces
time in the drier by up to 40%. It
will also allow the consumer to
more easily care for their ExpeDRY
down products, reducing energy
consumption throughout the life of
the garment or bag. "

" Post-pandemic, our customers
are ready for adventure, " says Kyle
Jacobson, CMO of Gobi Heat. " A
heightened desire to be outdoors
is growing the heated clothing and
gear market. With weather becoming
more and more unpredictable,
people want control of their personal
climate, and we see a desire for
smart, wearable technology gaining
steam. With advancements in battery
technology, we can deliver compact,
battery-powered warmth up
to 140°F for up to 10 hours without
recharging. " Gobi's three-zone heated
Colorado Hunting Vest ($199) is
available for men and women. It's a
wind- and water-resistant soft shell,
with an ultrasoft fl eece lining and a
conductive thread heat system powered
by lithium-ion batteries.
