sit-ski-specific kit.
Sit Down, Move Forward
Eddie Bauer introduces sit ski-specific jacket and bibs.

TODAY, EDDIE BAUER GOES
public with the first ski jacket and
bibs made specifically for adaptive
skiers. Built at the request of their
athlete Trevor Kennison, the first
disabled athlete to participate in
Jackson Hole's Kings and Queens
of Corbet's in 2019, the kit is hyper-articulated,
with extra insulation
in key zones, pockets that
are easy access when sitting, and
other position-specific features, so
sit skiers don't have to wear baggy,
oversized clothing to do their sport.
" Our mission as a brand is to get
as many people from diverse walks
of life into the outdoors as we can, "
said Damien Huang, Eddie Bauer
president. " Unlocking how people
enjoy the outdoors is marketing and

messaging, it's having an extended
size portfolio, and it's also having
product for specific applications. "
Market demand isn't clear, but
Huang says that the brand didn't
make the BC Flyline for high
return. " It was an effort to help
an athlete, and to get individuals
who have suffered paralysis into
the outdoors. "
For Huang, making the
sit-ski-specific kit is in line with
the brand's extended size offering,
and its work on a genderless fit
paradigm. " The brand is taking it
upon themselves to figure out what
an inclusive product line looks
like, " says Huang.
And they're ahead of the curve.

brand offers the largest selection
of technical outdoor apparel and
outerwear in the industry from
down jackets to ski kits, and
they've been making plus-sized
technical apparel for 20 years.
" From a range of body representation
in model casting, to
how customers shop extended
sizes on its site, the brand wants
to ensure all people can see themselves
outside in our apparel, " said
Huang.
The numbers back up their
claims. Last fall, Eddie Bauer had
68 plus-sized women's outerwear
styles-73% of their line. This
spring, they have 64 plus-sized
women's outerwear styles-84%
of their line.
" If I put my financial brain on,
its expensive for the company
because we're militant in how we
manage fit, " says Huang. " And
we're working hard to build out
that portfolio and offer it as ubiquitously
as possible. "
For Huang, making the BC
Flyline kit and expanding plus
size SKUs is the principle of the
brand and nature of who they
are. " We'd absolutely like it to be a
bigger part of our business, " said
Huang. " But we won't stop doing
it if doesn't grow in the future. "
Eddie Bauer will donate 20 kits
through the High Fives Foundation
for staff and athletes. $549
