Johnson Controls Releases IQ WiFi Mesh Product
▶ SAN JOSE, Calif. - Johnson
Controls has released a mesh
WiFi networking system to address
the needs of the professional
security industry.
IQ WiFi is the latest product
IQ WiFI is the latest product
manufactured by Qolsys.
manufactured by Qolsys, based
here, which was acquired fully
by Johnson Controls in 2020.
The product is designed specifically
to seamlessly connect and manage streaming cameras,
video doorbells, garage openers and consumer WiFi devices using
the IQ Panel, according to an announcement.
" The security industry has become increasingly dependent on
the end user's network to support the growing demand of Internet
connected devices, " says Dave Pulling, Johnson Controls general
manager and former CEO of Qolsys. " IQ WiFi elegantly connects
and manages these devices to deliver better coverage and fast,
reliable service. "
The mesh network is said to support up to eight IQ WiFi agents,
and easily installs using the IQ panel's 7-inch touchscreen. Dual
band SSID allows partitioning of security devices from consumer
WiFi devices for improved security and maintenance.
Users can manage guest networks, change passwords, view and
manage connected devices from the IQ Panel's intuitive interface.
" IQ Panel integration resolves common issues while delivering additional
features and benefits for professional installers, " says Pulling.

The company was founded in 2005
by integrator Jay Faison with the goal of
making it " easy as a snap " for integrators

ADT Settles Trademark Dispute With Ring
▶ BOCA RATON, Fla. - ADT has settled a lawsuit against Ring
over alleged trademark infringement involving ADT's blue octagon
mark and Ring's products.
Filed in April, the lawsuit alleged that Ring adopted a blue octagon
mark that is virtually indistinguishable from ADT's blue octagon
mark. Following an attempt to imitate ADT's lawn signs, the
DIY security provider went further and allegedly assimilated the
company's blue octagon design into its Ring Alarm Outdoor Siren,
according to the complaint.
As part of the agreement, Ring will release a new version of
the Outdoor Siren product and will discontinue the marketing and
sale of the current design.
According to court filings by ADT, this issue between the two
companies has been ongoing for years. Originally, ADT reached
out to Ring in August 2016 hoping it would take appropriate steps
to avoid infringing on ADT's blue octagon design for yard signs
and minimize the risk of confusion by the public.
In response, Ring changed the majority of its lighted yard sign's
design to be white with a blue accent at the top, while still maintaining
the octagonal design. This was enough to mend the relationship
between the two companies initially. However, the design
of Ring's new Outdoor Siren prompted ADT to file this lawsuit over
brand recognition.
