Ring Helps Drive More Homebuilders
into Smart Tech
Video doorbells are now standard features in 32% of newly built homes, which can drive
installation of even more tech amenities.
he demand among homebuilders for smart
home technology is growing, and integrators
can thank the popularity of Ring Video
Doorbells for much of that growth.
According to new research from Utopia,
nearly one-third (32%) of homebuilders now
report marketing video doorbells as a standard
amenity in their newly constructed homes. That
is by far the most popular smart home technology
that builders have migrated from an option
to a standard amenity, well ahead of wholehouse
controls, smart fitness equipment, and
home monitoring systems. At the same time,
the Utopia study reveals video doorbells are the
most popular smart home upgrade option, with
nearly 42% of builders offering it to their prospective
buyers.
The broad acceptance of smart home technology
as standard and optional features by builders has
been a long time coming. Builders have historically
been reticent to include any kind of smart technology
in their homes, fearing potential construction
delays due to tech installation and possible future
service calls, among other reasons. But all that has
changed, likely due to broad consumer awareness of integrator-friendly
products from companies like Ring, a leading brand in video doorbells
among custom integrators with a 64% market usage, according to Security
Sales & Integration sister publication CE Pro's 2021 CE Pro 100
Brand Analysis Study.
As the primary tech installation partners for homebuilders, integrators
are beneficiaries of the changing attitude among builders
toward smart home technology. Video doorbells from Amazonowned
Ring can be the centerpiece for a conversation between integrators
and consumers about other technology in the home, such as
lighting, Wi-Fi, audio, indoor air quality and more.
Earlier this year, Lennar announced " Lennar Communities Connected
by Ring, " a suite of connected home products in new Lennar
homes that can all be managed from the Ring app. Lennar Communities
Connected by Ring brings security and smart home amenities together
in a single app using the Ring Alarm security system and Ring Video
Doorbell Pro, integrated with technologies from Level Lock, eero, Flo
by Moen, Honeywell Home by Resideo and myQ Smart Garage Door
Opener. Additional compatible devices can also be added a la carte as
homeowners create a home security system that is unique to their needs.
Ring's work with Lennar is just one of many integrations with

other brands such as Savant, Lutron, Holovision,
Masonite and Snap One. Savant systems fully integrate
with both the Ring X Line and Ring consumer
devices to allow CE pros and customers to
see Live View, notifications and two-way audio
from their Ring devices via the Savant control.
Savant also offers the Ring X Line for sale via its
Savant Store.
Doorway entry system manufacturer, Holovision,
offers the Holovision Powered by Ring product
line for the professional installation industry.
The line of four products enables integrators to
design customized access control systems for their
clients and utilizes PoE hardware from the Ring
Video Doorbell Elite, which can then be combined
with the client's or integrator's preferred access technologies.
Along with the Holovision Powered by
Ring product, another access control option is the
new Ring Access Controller Pro 2, which is a device
that supports remote entry access and secure, ingate
package deliveries via Key by Amazon.
Ring devices also integrate with lighting control
industry leader Lutron Electronics. The integration
allows customers to set their front door and entry
lights controlled by a Lutron system to turn on when a linked Ring
device detects motion, or when the doorbell is pressed. The addition of
lighting to a door entry event adds another layer of security by giving
the impression that someone is home. The integration is supported
by the Caséta by Lutron and the newly-announced Radio RA3 smart
lighting control systems and compatible Ring devices.
In one of its more unique collaborations, Ring is partnering with
Masonite International Corp., a leading manufacturer of interior
and exterior doors. The collaboration embeds Ring Video Doorbell
technology, along with Yale Home smart lock technology, into
the Masonite door to create their first-ever smart door. According
to Masonite, the patent-pending technology is the most significant
advance in research and development for its doors since the founding
of the company back in 1925.
The newest Ring relationship is with Snap One, which now
distributes 56 SKUs of Ring devices, including the Ring X Line,
online and via its nationwide network of branches. Snap One Local
Pro Stores will serve integrators with in-stock availability of Ring
Video Doorbells, Chimes, Security Cams, Smart Lighting, X Line,
and Ring Alarm, as well as compatible sensors like a Panic Button,
Smoke/CO Listener, and Flood & Freeze Sensor.
