is set to release a glass-break sensor for
its Ring Alarm and Ring Alarm Pro
DIY smart security systems. The Ring
Alarm Glass Break Sensor is said to utilize
AI technology to accurately detect
glass-break events, like windows being
smashed or cracked, up to 25 feet away.
If the sound is detected, users will
receive a notification on their Ring
App. Settings can be adjusted to automatically
trigger a Ring Alarm siren
when in Home or Away mode, and
receive a call from Ring's monitoring
center if enrolled in 24/7 professional
monitoring with a Ring Protect Pro
subscription.

says the detector is easy to install
and can be added to the Ring Alarm or
Ring Alarm Pro in minutes by simply
mounting it to a wall, ceiling or even
furniture near glass doors and windows.
Many other sensors can also be connected
to the Ring Alarm system, such
as contact sensors and motion detectors.
The glass-break sensor is powered by
three AA alkaline batteries, with an expected
battery life up to three years depending
on device settings, usage, environment
and other factors. At press
time, the product was expected to be
available beginning Feb. 16 as a single
device or a two-pack.
Amherst Acquires Buffalo Alarm's Residential
& Commercial Accounts

residential and commercial security accounts of Buffalo Alarm
for undisclosed terms.

Amherst Alarm has been in business for almost four decades
and currently has more than 70 people on staff. The company

Bay Alarm Buys Mijac Alarm in Southern California
▶ CONCORD, Calif. - Bay Alarm, a superregional provider of security
solutions and alarm systems for commercial and residential
clients, based here, has acquired Mijac Alarm Systems of Rancho
Cucamonga, Calif. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Since 1971, Mijac Alarm has been protecting Southern California
homes and businesses. Among a full-service portfolio of systems
and solutions, the company provides intrusion, fire alarms (existing,
new construction or retrofit), video surveillance, access control, as
well as sprinkler monitoring and testing. Mijac Alarm also operates
a UL-certified central monitoring station.
Mijac Alarm Founder Jacques Sopkin, a former law enforcement
officer, established the company along with his wife, Mitzi. The
Sopkins sold their first alarm system in the garage of their house,
according to the company's website. Their son Steve Sopkin, who
served as president up until the acquisition, is credited for building
Mijac into what it is today.
Founded in 1946 in Oakland, Calif., Bay Alarm is now in its third
generation of family leadership. The company has grown to be
the largest independently owned and operated alarm company
in the United States with 17 branch locations, protecting more
than 150,000 residential and commercial customers in California,
Arizona and Washington, according to its website. The company
employs around 1,100 staff members.
In 2016, Bay Alarm Founders Roger and Bruce Westphal were
inducted into the SSI Industry Hall of Fame.
