ADT Commercial Municipal System
Entry highlights . . .
The resort town of Hilton Head Island, S.C.,
is home to some 38,000 permanent residents.
The island's 12 miles of Atlantic Ocean beachfront
annually draws 3.2 million visitors. The
destination's decision-makers were interested in
not only upgrading and expanding the security
program of its Town Center Campus but also
wanted systems that could be readily integrated
and deliver a simple-to-use application to easily
manage, service and leverage the town's systems.
Through a comprehensive RFP process,
ADT Commercial proposed a highly integrated
security solution to encompass the town's four
government buildings that comprise its Town
Center Campus. Prior to the RFP, the town had
very limited security protecting these buildings,
which house its council chambers, finance department
and government administrative offices.
The legacy security program prior to the
partnership with ADT Commercial consisted
of some 13 aging cameras with poor-quality
images and Evolve weapons detection used for
public meeting security. The town had no intrusion
detection or access control in place.
The new, much more comprehensive security
solution recently deployed for the municipality
now consists of on-premises access control with
Cloud-based, integrated visitor management in a
self-service kiosk with the option of tying to the
human resources system, as well as intrusion detection
and an IP-based, enterprise video solution
covering parking lots, exterior exits, common
areas, council chambers and offices. The system
also includes remote monitoring of duress signals,
video alarm verification, virtual keypad app
control, secure cellular communications, mobile
credentials, photo ID badges, hold-up buttons
and eSuite account management.
▶ Access Control: An AMAG Symmetry
access control system covers approximately
63 access points. All government
employees and staff are issued photo
ID cards for use with the access control
readers, along with optional mobile
credentials. It is estimated that the town
will issue more than 270 photo ID cards.
Consideration in the initial design allows
the new card readers to read both the new
encrypted DesFire credentials plus the
existing 125kHz proximity credentials
already in use by other existing facilities,

facilities as well as the public safety building.
This provides a pathway to upgrade
older existing access systems for the town
and migrate them into the new AMAG
Symmetry platform.
▶ Visitor Management: The integrated,
Cloud-based AMAG visitor management
system is housed in a standalone kiosk
to facilitate self-service application and is
tied to the access control system.
▶ Remote Monitoring: ADT Commercial
provides remote monitoring services of
holdup/duress buttons, intrusion sensors
and integrated alarm video verification to
help reduce false alarm dispatches.
▶ Video Management System: The Avigilon
VMS provides comprehensive surveillance
coverage for the parking lots, exterior
exits, common areas, council chambers
and offices and entry points. The system
includes approximately 68 cameras.
▶ Intrusion Detection: A world-class
DMP intrusion detection system has been
installed with virtual keypad and duress
buttons. This system consists of roughly
147 monitoring points throughout the
four facilities.
▶ Other: eSuite account management
solution offers critical system insight as
well as a host of self-service features for
the customer to perform critical security
and administrative tasks. The addition of
cellular communicators allows for a secure
connection to the monitoring center
should an incident occur.
The Town of Hilton Head Island's security
team highlighted ADT Commercial's integrity as
a company throughout the RFP and installation
process, citing that the organization has been a
true partner - able to make and keep timelines
and commitments to the customer. This was extremely
important due to the global supply chain
issues that were present during this project installation
process. ADT Commercial made every
effort to remain flexible and select alternate products
as needed to shorten lead times and keep the
installation process moving forward.
The trust that has been built has placed ADT
Commercial in a favorable position for further
work with the Town of Hilton Head and the
teams are looking forward to continued collaboration
