The sensation of utter bliss continues when
I indulge in a ULIVITAS treatment for deep muscle
relaxation. The therapist exfoliates my body using
micronised basil powder and olive oil to activate
the hemolymphatic circulation. As I feel my longheld
tension disperse, she explains how the Active
Beauty skincare range, contains bio-plankton,
along with a concentrate of beneficial minerals
and nitrogenous substances. My skin feels soft and
nourished afterwards and I'm not surprised that
the thermal waters are used to irrigate the resort's
lush golf course and olive groves, where the staff

my companion and I comment how we're so
relaxed, we feel like we've been at the spa for
three days and yet it's only been 24 hours. The
substantial breakfast is followed by the rituals
of the cold and hot bathing in the 37.5°C pools.
An abrasion on my arm is healing so quickly
before my eyes, it's almost unbelievable. " That
will be the water, " says my beauty therapist as
she's applying an Anti-Age Active Beauty facial
treatment, tailored to my skin type - pure
perfection, using multifunctional technology
and a bio-cellulose mask. I emerge with my
skin noticeably plump, looking more rested
than I have done in years (well, I do have a
small child at home!)
My favourite dining experience takes place
on the final evening, in La Stellata Trattoria,
the resort's Tuscan country restaurant, up on
a hill in the middle of the golf course (an ideal
spot to grab some lunch around the 10th hole).
We're seated just in time to watch the sunset
over the beautiful emerald scenery - stunning.
Standout dishes include the mouth-watering
trio of carpaccios and a local speciality, gnudi.
These are dumplings, similar to gnocchi, but
the recipe uses Manciano ricotta cheese and
replaces potato flour with semolina. The ones
I tuck into contain spinach and are cooked with
sage and butter - beautifully light and fluffy.
The espresso-drenched tiramisu dessert with
grated Tuscan chocolate offers the pick-me-up
I need, ready to make our way back to our suite.
Therapeutic bathing and relaxation, quality
Tuscan gastronomic delights, luxurious
interiors, attentive service and excellent
wellness facilities - it's no wonder that Terme
di Saturnia has recently been nominated for
Conde Nast Traveller's Reader's Choice award.
I leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, reborn
- and vowing to return one day.
