SUMMER 2023 Susanna Santamaria Engineering Director Susanna was appointed early in 2023. Susanna joined Prysmian as a contractor in the Telecom Engineering team in 2007, eventually becoming Telecom Engineering Manager. What are the key challenges of your current role? We have a lot of great technicians and engineers and some world class lab facilities in the UK. I see it as my role to strengthen their interaction, to share best practice and support each other to achieve their development goals. I believe these teams can be greater than the sum of their parts by working together. been fortunate that opportunities have presented themselves to me and I have not been afraid to take them, embracing the challenges and pushing myself. I joined Prysmian when it had recently Joanne Salathiel Human Resources Director Joanne joined the Company as an HR Officer. What are the key challenges of your current role? The key challenges are: recruitment of talent in a challenging market; retaining and developing the existing workforce; leadership development; work-life balance/health and wellness; crossgenerational team building; change management; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; employee experience; and simplification and digitalisation. What were your career ambitions when you first joined Prysmian? I have always set myself objectives and worked to the best of my ability, building relationships with key customers and delivering on promises. I have acquired BICC. There was a great deal of work to be completed in terms of organisation structure. I was heavily involved in the restructuring of the Pirelli sites in the northwest and was involved in meetings with the senior team. How does Prysmian encourage people to progress? Employees can take responsibility for their own development and work with the company. The annual appraisal process drives them towards achieving objectives and leadership competencies, and recognises talent. Learning opportunities are available to all and there are no barriers to progression. What is your key message to someone aspiring to develop their career? Work hard, build strong networks, deliver on your promises and always look at the big picture. How did you progress your career? I'm a naturally curious person who enjoys experimenting and problem solving. My line managers recognised this and gave me the space and encouragement to develop by trying new things and letting me learn from my mistakes What is your key message to someone aspiring to develop their career with Prysmian?
