A record 90 aviation maintenance teams from around the
world are expected to compete against each other in
the Aerospace Maintenance
Competition (AMC) Presented
by Snap-on. The exciting
event will be held at the MRO
Americas 2020 Convention,
April 28-30, at the Kay Bailey
Hutchinson Convention Center
in Dallas, Texas.
Over the past several years, the
Aerospace Maintenance Competition Presented by Snap-on
has grown to become a widely
attended international aviation
experience for both technicians
and fans. The venue provides certified AMTs from major airlines,
MROs and OEMs, as well as military personnel and students in
FAA Part 147 schools, the chance
to test their skills against their peers.

HAI Names James A. Viola
as President and CEO
The Board of Directors of Helicopter
Association International named James
A. Viola as the organization's president
and CEO. Viola replaces Matthew S.
Zuccaro, who announced his retirement
last fall. Viola most recently served
as director of general aviation safety
assurance for the Federal Aviation
Administration. In this role, he oversaw
78 Flight Standards District Offices
and 2,500 employees across the United States and was responsible
for maintaining consistency and standardization in the application
of safety oversight activities for the general aviation community.
Additionally, he ensured stakeholder and public needs were met
quickly and efficiently and was responsible for starting the US
Helicopter Safety Team, serving as the initial government co-chair.

Congress Fully Funds Aviation
Workforce Development
Programs for 2020
The National Air Transportation Association (NATA)
applauded Congressional appropriators on the release
of the final text of a bipartisan, bicameral funding
agreement for fiscal year 2020, which began on
October 1. Aviation workforce development programs,
a top NATA priority, will receive full funding at the
authorized level of $10 million. The bill also provides
robust funding for the Airport Improvement Program
at the $3.35 billion level as authorized and an additional $400 million from the general fund.
Contained in the legislation is $10 million for a workforce development grant program that provides grants
of up to $500,000 that can be used to by schools, companies, unions or state/local governments to fund curriculum development, instructor training, equipment
purchase, apprenticeships and recruitment activities.

Southwest Airlines Opens $125M
Maintenance Facility in Houston
Southwest Airlines opened a $125-million,
240,000-square-foot maintenance facility at Hobby
Airport, making it the largest maintenance facility
for the Dallas-based airline. "It's proof of our devotion
and our dedication to Houston," Southwest CEO Gary
Kelly said during a grand opening celebration. "And
the opportunity that we see here, and the excitement
that we have to continue to grow."

Magnetic MRO Receives
CAAC Certification
Magnetic MRO has received the Civil Aviation
Administration of China certification, proving the
company has qualifications and meet local regulatory requirements for the maintenance, repair and
overhaul organizations. Obtaining this certification
allows the company to expand its capabilities and
provide maintenance service on Chinese registered
aircraft and its engines.
