Nokia making bid for king of 5G mountain
Nokia is gaining significant market share in 5G, having signed 42
commercial 5G deals around the world since March, according
to a June 4 report by CNN. At the same time, Shenzhen-based
Huawei's fortunes are sagging, as the telecommunications equipment giant is under fire, following a U.S.-instigated campaign
against it. Claiming national security concerns, the U.S. is influencing allies to jettison Huawei equipment from their 5G
networks. CNN reports that Nokia has made 12 new deals in
the last two months compared to two for Huawei.
Washington D.C. has told U.S. companies not to sell key parts
and components to Huawei. Wireless companies in Japan and the
United Kingdom have been forced to delay the launch of Huawei
smartphones. Recent deals shunning Huawei have revealed that
Nokia may be in position to become No. 1 in the 5G arena.
