FAA Issues Alert to Prevent
Injuries to Ground Crews
The Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) issued a Safety Alert for Operators
(SAFO) to prevent injuries while
workers are towing aircraft and guiding
them to and from gates.
The SAFO reminds airlines that it is
important for workers to remain clear
of operating engines until they are shut
down. Workers also must remain clear
of an aircraft until it comes to a complete
stop and the wheel chocks are
in place. Furthermore, it recommends
that airlines review their safety management
system (SMS) to ensure their
procedures follow these standards.
Tahltan Nation Takes Over
Fuel Service Operations
at Dease Lake Airport
Tahltan Nation Development Corporation
(TNDC) is now the fuel service provider
at the Dease Lake Airport (CYDL).
Serving up to 25 aircraft weekly, TNDC's
fuel operations at CYDL will support
medical evacuations, crew changes
at the Red Chris mine, firefighting,
and allow private aircraft a dedicated
fuel source.
As the contract airport operator of
CYDL, TNDC is the one of only a few
Indigenous organizations to manage
an airport in British Columbia. In addition
to fuel operations, TNDC Airport
Services is responsible for inspections,
maintenance and ongoing operations of
the airport, including snow and brush
clearing, runway friction tests, runway
sweeping, grounds maintenance, passenger
and ground handling and deicing
of aircraft.
Qatar Joins Animal
Defenders International
for a Lion's Journey
Ruben, a lion, was left behind when a
private zoo closed down in Armenia.
Animal Defenders International (ADI)
could not find a suitable flight for
him to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in
South Africa.
Then Qatar Airways Cargo stepped in
to help orchestrate a 5,200-mile journey
for the 15-year-old lion.
" We are committed to preserving
wildlife and endangered species, that is
why we launched our WeQare Chapter
2 initiative: 'Rewild the Planet' back in
2020. We pledged to return wildlife and
endangered species back to their natural
habitat, free of charge and we will
continue to do so, " Elisabeth Oudkerk,
SVP, cargo sales and network planning
at Qatar Airways Cargo, said.
" Assuming fuel operations at CYDL
is another milestone in TNDC's goal
to provide all aspects of airport services
at the Dease Lake Airport. This
critical infrastructure is relied upon by
the exploration and mining industry,
government and local community for
reliable fuel for medevacs, firefighting,
and in future, commercial flights. It is
one more example of TNDC diversifying
our business and becoming an integrated
full-service provider and trusted
partner to our clients. Moreover, it is
expanding the skills of our local Tahltan
workforce, providing full-time yearround
employment. " said Paul Gruner,
CEO of TNDC.
ANA Expands SAF Flight
Initiative Services for Air Cargo
All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest
airline, is launching a new service in
its SAF Flight Initiative, a program dedicated
to reducing CO2 emission levels
through the use of sustainable aviation
fuel (SAF). Through the new service,
ANA will extend the SAF Flight Initiative
offering to companies that use air
cargo to transport and deliver products
and provide a solution to visualize and
reduce indirect CO2 emissions.
The new service will enable companies
that use air cargo to transport
products based on their track record,
including factors like weight, volume
and distance of transportation.
" Our SAF Flight Initiative is a critical
component of ANA's strategy to
reduce carbon emissions in our own
operations and be a catalyst for other
businesses looking to become more
sustainable, " Toshiaki Toyama, chairman
of ANA Cargo, said.

RELIABLE PROCESSES: Establish repeatable processes with DG
software such as Labelmaster's DGIS.
Hey CEO: Your DG pro wants you to know:
The handling of dangerous goods is of high
importance; therefore, more funds should
be allocated to it for a better and quality
service delivery.
Handling DG is a great business only if
safety and quality of services offered are
upheld. Well-trained and qualified DG
agents mean good business.
DATA CONSISTENCY: Integrate DG software into your ERP and
WMS to ensure complete, accurate data.
SUSTAINABILITY: Shift to digital publications and documentation
and reusable, recyclable DG packaging such as Capsuloc.
EFFECTIVE TRAINING: Strengthen employees' understanding of DG
regulations with Labelmaster's immersive 3D experiences.
About the Global Dangerous Goods Confidence Outlook
This survey was conducted online between April 18 and June 1, 2023.
All questions were developed by Labelmaster, IATA and HCB. Participant
information was not shared with each other or any other outside parties.
The data and results are copyrighted by Labelmaster, IATA and HCB.
" Ongoing supply chain disruptions
along with the continued growth of
e-commerce and markets that rely on
DG - from consumer products to electric
vehicles - has made shipping goods
safely and compliantly increasingly
difficult. While organizations showed
improvement in their DG operations
over the last year, the survey underscored
the need to reduce process
complexity and enhance digitalization
to address future supply chain and regulatory
challenges, " said Robert Finn,
vice president, Labelmaster.
