Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is a
light rail and bus system serving the Dallas, TX region. DART has 163 LRV trains
and over 600 buses. The system is also
equipped with 64 stations, many which
have elevators cladded in stainless steel.
DART was being vandalized at an alarming
rate with graffiti tags obscuring glass panels in and around the stations, trains, and
the interior and exterior stainless steel
surface of the elevators.
Metal Shield, a 6-mil thick graffiti
abatement and obscuring film was installed over the damaged stainless steel
surfaces; replicating its original, clean appearance while protecting the substrate
from future damage.
Glass Shield Multi-Layer, a 4 layered
sacrificial film was installed on glass sur-
faces of the trains, buses and stations protecting from damage caused by scratching,
carving, and even acid. Once damaged by
vandals the first layer can be quickly removed leaving 3 remaining layers, giving
the glass a 'new like' appearance and protection against future vandalism.
Both films utilize a proprietary adhesive system engineered to withstand
removal attempts by the general public,
but easily removed by a trained technician without leaving any adhesive transfer on the surface. Each piece of film is
engraved with a custom part number
for easy coordination of reorders and
replacement installation.
