Mass Transit Rail Product Guide - 4
Vibrant Community Growth
Through Mobility
With growing concerns on environmental impacts, vehicular traffic pollution and growing populations, today's
cities need to find ways to improve the
mobility for its citizens. In addition, the
influx of employment centers in many cities are developed away from affordable
housing areas. Employment centers will
draw additional workforce which translates into unplanned population growth.
Likewise, healthcare centers and hospitals are not easily accessible by communities that needs it the most. These are
some of the issues that create the mobility problems that many cities are now
trying to solve.
As cities continue to evolve, the inclusion of transit and rail alternatives will
not only improve mobility but will also
provide significant opportunities for economic development. Mobility through
investment of heavy rail, commuter rail,
light rail (LRT), streetcars and bus rapid transit (BRT) will allow residents and
tourists more access to work locations,
healthcare, shops, parks, businesses,
theatre and other public spaces.
AECOM is committed to collaborating with public agencies to determine
the best mobility options from planning
through construction, commissioning and
putting the system into operation. Our
global mobility and transit expertise are
harnessed and delivered through its local
experts, who are knowledgeable in the
particular issues of the client's we serve.
AECOM's fully integrated approach and
focus on delivery starts with becoming
our client's partner, collaborator and advisor. We start with developing solutions
to the specific problems of our clients.
"The largest benefit of mobility to our
communities and cities is that it provides
a needed catalyst for growth-with the
goal being to reduce traffic and contribute to a cleaner environment," says Gregory Yates, P.E., AECOM Senior Vice President and Americas Transit Market Sector

Leader. "Mobility provides for workers to
reach employment centers, and students
to reach schools and universities, and citizens to access the healthcare facilities
that they may need."
We work with our clients to look at
today's mobility issues and assist with
forecasting long range solutions for the
future. From planning through engineering, AECOM works with our clients to determine the best way to deliver their mobility solutions-whether it be a new BRT
or LRT systems or extensions or upgrades
to existing systems. Delivery solutions may
include private financing, operations and
maintenance of the new system, and requirements for state-of-good repair rehabilitation. Then we work with our clients
to get the new solutions up and running.
AECOM has helped communities and
our clients provide transit and rail mobility options in cities around the country,
including Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Boston, and New York City.
AECOM's involvement with the MBTA's
Silver Line BRT in Boston has provided
a mobility option into the city's Seaport
District which has seen over $10 billion
in economic development in the form of
condominiums and apartments, restaurants and other entertainment venues.
AECOM doesn't just react to our clients' needs with the options and technologies of the moment. We partner with our
clients to not only choose the best mobility options for the particular situation, but
we drive the markets for the technologies
of tomorrow. We work to ensure that our
clients do not spend their hard-fought
infrastructure dollars on solutions and
technologies that are outdated the moment it goes into service. AECOM's mobility and technology options are gathered
from the best practices from around the
globe - and delivered locally to each and
every client we serve.
