MTA and Transit Innovation Partnership host
signaling challenge virtual demo day

Signaling Challenge Virtual Demo Day was hosted by
the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Transit
Innovation Partnership. The digital event showcased 17
technology companies that presented more than 150 proposals via video conference presentations to MTA officials
for modernizing New York City's subway signaling system.
"The MTA is focused on the long-term needs of the region's transportation system while we handle the unprecedented day-to-day challenges posed by the COVID-19
pandemic," said Mark Dowd, MTA chief innovation officer.
"This public health crisis is a formidable challenge and we
sincerely appreciate the hard work of Transit Innovation
Partnership in helping MTA build the most innovative solutions on the market."
The Virtual Demo Day was part of the MTA and Transit Innovation Partnership's Signaling Challenge, which is enlisting
transportation technology innovators to identify ways to
make existing subway cars compatible with new signaling
technology as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

technical advisory services

Light Rail Transit project. The
18-km (11.18-mile) project

William J. Flynn has
been named CEO
and president of Amtrak with his role beginning April 15. He
brings four decades
of transportation and
logistics experience to
the role. He most recently served as president, CEO and board
chairman of Atlas Air
Worldwide Holdings,
Inc., and has also
held senior roles with
CSX Transportation,
Sea-Land Services,
Inc., and GeoLogistics
Corp. "Amtrak's future
is incredibly bright and
I'm excited to join the
team," Flynn said. "It's
a privilege to join [the
team] in continuing
this work and advancing something as
important as Amtrak's
mission."

GoTriangle's Board
of Trustees voted
to hire Charles E.
Lattuca as president and CEO of
the agency. He
previously was the
executive director of
transit development
and delivery for the
Maryland Department
of Transportation,
where he has been
leading a $5.6-billion project to build
a 16.2-mile light-rail
system that's expected
to open in 2023 in the
Baltimore-Washington,
D.C., metro area. He
was selected following
a nationwide search
and is expected to
start his new role in
mid-April. "I'm very
excited about coming
to North Carolina and
being a part of the
GoTriangle team...,"
Lattuca said.

Alex Chen has been
selected to be the
new director of
information technology for Omnitrans, where he will
lead a team of nine
employees to prepare
Omnitrans for a sustainable digital future,
including upgrading
vehicle equipment and
migrating technology
resources to cloudbased systems to maximize efficiencies and
enhance data security.
He joined Omnitrans in
2008 as database administrator, and most
recently completed his
second stint as interim
director of information
technology. During his
tenure at Omnitrans,
Chen has programmed
numerous reporting
tools in-house that
have achieved great
cost savings for the
agency.

George Wright has
been promoted
to deputy chief
of rail operations
after having served
for three years as
MARTA's senior director of operations
support services. In
his new role, Wright
will oversee rail
transportation, rail car
maintenance, maintenance of way, stations
and facilities, technical
training and light rail.
He will report to Chief
of Rail Operations David Springstead. Wright
has more than 20 years
of transportation and
logistics experience
at public and private
companies. Wright will
focus on improving
MARTA rail service delivery and addressing
customer needs.

Santiago Osorio has
been selected to be
the new deputy chief
of bus operations. In
his new role, Osorio
will be responsible for
bus transportation,
bus maintenance and
mobility (paratransit) services. He will
report to Chief of
Bus Operations and
Urban Planning Collie
Greenwood. Osorio
was previously at the
Metropolitan Transit
Authority of Harris
County in Houston,
Texas, where he
oversaw bus transportation and the bus
and rail operator and
maintenance training
programs. He's also
previously worked at
the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit
Authority.
