year is always a good time to take stock in what was, as well as
theorize about what may be and one of the things I've enjoyed
throughout my career, no matter the publication, is glancing
back at the top stories of a particular year.

It's not surprising that our biggest print issue was our September/October
issue, which included our annual 40 Under 40 honorees. The day we published the honorees on our website is also the single busiest web traffic day
we experience on masstransitmag.com. We recently opened the nomination
process for 2020 and look forward to welcoming a new class of honorees.
Regarding buses, zero-emissions dominated interest among our readers.
Traffic landing on our coverage within the "Hybrid, Hydrogen & Electric
Vehicles" channel soared this year, making it the most popular within the
"Bus" category. Our "Rail" channel traffic gravitated toward maintenance
and infrastructure stories. Top stories in this category in 2019 include the
passing of the Rebuild Illinois bill, which was the state's first comprehensive
infrastructure bill since 2009 and the developments surrounding the pending
opening of the BART Silicon Valley extension being constructed by Santa
Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
