was recently at a mobile tool
dealer tradeshow where 48
percent of the dealers were at
the show for the very first time.
COVID-19 had caused the two
previous years to be canceled,
and many people decided to
partake in the Great Resignation
and go down a different route
(pun intended!).
It's clear that automotive
technicians are the perfect fit for a
mobile tool dealer business. They
already know the tools, they have
a passion for them, and they can
relate to their customers. There is
a steep learning curve with some
of the products sold on a tool
truck, so you're at a great advantage
if you've already used them
in your previous day job.

However, making that leap
can be difficult. Many tool dealers
have told me how it was initially
tough to get their financial ducks
in a row, and they ended up going
with a flag that had good financing
and provided support in this
area. The reality of running your
own business is not easy, so if
any of your friends and past colleagues
are considering it, encourage
them to speak to a financial
advisor and make sure this is a
dream they can truly pursue.
With that said, I have never
spoken to a tool dealer who said
he or she regretted the move.
They always tell me it has been
fun and rewarding from the very
first day. Everyone acknowledges
there are challenges, but nothing
good in life ever comes easy! If
you have some friends who are
considering taking the leap, make
sure to lend a helping hand and
let them know they aren't alone
in this new adventure. And of
