Bonding System Composite Help... Composites I was lucky enough to get a new Sonicﬁ ll bulk-ﬁ ll composite system to test drive for about a week and thought I'd share my experience. I'm not sure if anyone else has talked about this device. I had a few "composite" days in a row. It seemed that every patient that day was getting composites, so I was able to put the unit to good use. Here's the bottom line: I really like the delivery system! Kerr has designed a "pen-style" unit that uses a Kavo quick-connect (which can be purchased along with the kit). It ﬁts neatly in your hand and is roughly the size of a standard air-turbine handpiece. It ﬁ lls a "standard" cavity prep in just a few seconds, and with no effort. But the composite is another story. Yes, the handling is certainly unique. It "ﬂows" into your prep with ease and after the unit is turned off, begins to thicken or become more viscous. The handling is certainly adequate. My biggest problem is the ﬁnal appearance. In order to make this a bulk-ﬁll composite I think Kerr had to sacriﬁce some of the aesthetics. It polishes well, but just looks ok when it's ﬁnished. So, I think I will probably purchase the unit and end up using the material in areas of the mouth that are not super obvious, or on patients who are not super picky. I have been wondering about this system since it surfaced. ■ AUG 15 2011 I disagree. I think the aesthetics is very acceptable. I had been using Venus Flow to ﬁll the lower part of the box and this I found very unaesthetic. How can it cure 5mm deep? ■ AUG 30 2011 According to the manufacturer, the composite can be fully light cured to a depth of 5mm. I am just going by what they say but have had absolutely no problems to date. My review was based on a "loaner" Sonicﬁ ll from a Kerr rep, but I actually received my own about a week ago. I don't know why, but the appearance of the composite that I am now using is much better than what was used with the loaner. It was the same packaging and should have been the same exact composite, but the aesthetics are really quite nice. I have only used the A-2 in all the posteriors that I've done so far, but it seems to blend well and polishes nicely.
