The contacts that open up contacts between upper molars are found on mesial facing slopes
on the lingual surfaces on upper molars, which drive these teeth distally. Eliminating these
occlusal contacts should drive these teeth mesially and close the proximal contacts, but it's not
quite as predictable as are similar adjustments for lower open prox contacts. Still, it's the best
way to proceed. Best of luck. ■

The cross tooth working interference can distalize the upper second molar.

In lateral working, you can see the buccal facing slope of the mandibular ML cusp creating
the distalizing force.
So, you need to adjust the occlusion to remove this lateral interference and then adjust the
centric contacts so you only have them on distal facing inclined slopes. This will " tip " the tooth
towards the mesial and close the contact. ■

If after adjusting the lateral interference, and proper occlusion does not exist to tip the
tooth to the mesial in order to close the contact, could one consider adding a small amount of
composite to " create " the desired occlusion for such a scenario? ■
