I am glad to come back here and get all this input. I have a manager in
that offi ce that I have been hounding because our profi t is in the high teens
and I thought we should be close to 30%, which I think for a fully associate
offi ce is hard. (We are in Miami.)
How are you paying associates now? I am now paying 35% of adjusted
production, but am thinking of changing to $700 daily guaranteed and a
bonus on top of 10% when they meet a certain goal. I think with this new
way of paying plus doing some tweaking, I can get the profi t margin to 25%,
which will be my goal. 

56% here. I'm in a major metro area. I run my practice extremely lean.
Staff wages exploded, yes, but I was running sub-50%, give or take, before
COVID. After COVID, it went to 61%-65%. I dialed it back to 56% by cutting
health benefi t matching, doing all my ordering, etc. Shopped around. 

dentistry, but including associate doctor's pay? 

75%-80% is a disaster. Better off associating. $1 million collections,
$200,000-$250,000 income? Disaster. Run around doing tons of dentistry/
hygiene checks for peanuts. Better off going small, two or three ops and
running a less than 50% OH practice with $400,000-$500,000 collections.
Hygiene still in demand.
Th ere are a lot of people looking for a job-fi rst time for the dental fi eld.
I put an ad out for assistant/front and had lots of people with no experience
apply, looking for on-the-job training.
I think hygiene will have two scenarios:
1. Dental offi ces will just accept it and shell out money for them, meaning
hygienists will be in demand.
2. Dental offi ces will say " enough is enough " and go out-of-network,
smaller, etc., and then let them go en masse.
I think Option 1 will be the most likely one, because even if you wanted
to go smaller from two or three hygienists to one or two, that means you
will have an empty op making no money and lots of patients who can't get
