Severely Short Roots Pre-Ortho
What Would You Do?

Introduction:
Hello everyone. I had a mother and her daughter visit my office with this presentation. She
had seen an orthodontist at another location (corporate dental with in-house ortho). We discussed
the root situation (which she was aware of). I'm hesitant to put forces on the incisors, but the
daughter is being teased severely at school. The centrals are also mobile (1-2mm facio-lingually).
I didn't take a lateral ceph or do study models. I just took photos and pano and will likely not be
taking on this case.

Conclusion:
I let her mother know I would utilize this forum
to see what other orthodontists would do. I'm not sure
the purpose of the Nance and LLHA for this particular
instance. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. ■

Get a periapical of the maxillary anteriors. They appear flared and the roots may not be as
short as they look. I'd get the Nance out, and letter H out and make her a Hawley with finger
springs to gather the anteriors together. ■
