industry // news Ormco Announces Software Update and Reaches 100,000 Patient Cases Ormco Corporation, a provider of advanced orthodontic technology and services, has announced a new software update for Insignia Advanced Smile Design. The orthodontic software and appliance system combines 3D diagnostic technology and interactive treatment planning to deliver a completely customized solution to patients. The Insignia 21.8.1 software upgrade offers doctors an array of new molar-tube options and re-engineered placement jigs for increased clinical efficiency and enhanced case personalization. Ormco has also announced a distinguished milestone for Insignia, sharing that the company has shipped the 100,000th Insignia case. With the latest software updates-now available for download-Insignia offers new molar options for greater case customization, as orthodontists can now choose from SnapLink, Accent Mini or Custom TIB tubes. With these additional options for treatment submissions, bond strength can be increased by at least 30 percent, while providing reduced profiles for optimal patient comfort. Additionally, the upgrade includes re-engineered, custom-fit molar precision-placement guides (jigs), designed to offer clinicians and patients a precise, controlled and reliable bonding experience. Similarly, with full occlusal coverage, clinicians are able to secure a more stable fit to help decrease unwanted movement. The 100,000th Insignia patient-case milestone signifies increased adoption of innovative digital tools that differentiate an orthodontic practice. With Insignia Advanced Smile Design, doctors are able to review and conduct a thorough smile analysis based on each patient's specific smile anatomy. By customizing treatment based on each specific facial feature, orthodontists are able to virtually eliminate minor adjustments and tweaks throughout the treatment process, leading to fewer in-office visits, faster results and improved patient comfort. Additionally, the Insignia Doctor Locator has proven to be an invaluable resource, helping orthodontists increase patient starts and, ultimately, grow their practices. Orthotown.com American Association of Orthodontists Donated Orthodontic Services Program Expands The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) is expanding its Donated Orthodontic Services (DOS) program nationwide to provide opportunities for low-income children across the country to receive pro bono orthodontic treatment. The program previously operated in nine states. The DOS program is designed to provide orthodontic treatment to economically disadvantaged children who lack insurance coverage or who do not qualify for other dental health assistance where they live. DOS is administered by the Dental Life Line Network (DLN), an organization that helps match patients who need care with doctors who can provide it. Qualifying criteria include a low-income threshold and an examination by a general dentist to assess overall oral health. Applicants must be patients of record of a general or pediatric dentist or a dental clinic. Dr. Morris Poole, AAO president, notes that many accepted patients come into the program as a result of a referral from their family dentist. As the DOS program builds its network of volunteer orthodontists nationwide, it expects to offer free treatment to 250 young patients in the coming year. Since 2009, nearly 500 patients have been treated in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Virginia. 14 MARCH 2016 // orthotown.com http://www.Shofu.com http://www.Ormco.com http://www.Orthotown.com http://www.orthotown.com
