The mother of a Class III patient with speech issues wants to avoid surgery.
Can this ortho treat her without it?

Introduction:
A 13-year-old female presented with a chief complaint of "crooked teeth." She clearly has a Class
III skeletal/dental pattern but is vertically compensated, so addressing the vertical will result in the
Class III getting worse with mandibular rotation. Wits is -4mm (without predicted autorotation).
She and Mom are aware of the prominent anterior tongue posture and speech issues and she
has been in speech therapy in the past, but there are no reported symptoms of bruxism, snoring,
breathing issues (although I am fairly certain she is a mouth breather), sleep apnea or TMD. As
always, Mom has a strong preference against surgery, and my hunch is that she may opt to do
nothing if surgery is the only option.
