That is why I chose the case that I posted. Everything going against. Open bite posterior
crossbite not particularly leaned in posteriors. Higher angle. Lower crowding. With care, I think
you can manage your case.
Nice case, Fen. Not extracting does not make shallow overbites if done with care. Just look
at the case I presented. ■

Thanks, David. That's a nice case with good improvement; however, I prefer more overbite,
especially if they start off shallow. Control of gingival display is also more predictable with
extraction (in my opinion), and in her case, she could stand to have a bit more tooth show. U7s
and UL3 look like they may need some space as well. ■

There has been a constant theme in your post re shallow bites and non-extraction getting
worse. Is that because you feel the incisors flare and relatively intrude, or that the posterior extrudes
naturally with braces, or a combo of both? ■

I have seen both happen. Incisors procline substantially and, less frequently, posterior teeth
extrude. Not just with fi xed-occurs across the board. No free lunch, unfortunately. Have
treated too many cases like that non-extraction and had to go back and re-treat. Careful analysis
of the outcomes, including superimpositions, measuring IC width, etc. and seeing them back at
retention checks was eye-opening.
