I will be opening my new offi ce soon and have yet to name it. This will be a new offi ce and I
must strategically name it to attract new patients. So here is my question for the experts:
What is the best name for a new offi ce in terms of marking and branding itself?
Doctor's name. Some last names are " catchy " and easy to remember, or even have a meaning
that would imply something positive about the practice. My last name is not complicated but may
not be easy to remember and is without a meaning. It would be " Mir Orthodontics. " Would I be
faced with a problem if try to hire an associate or sell the offi ce in the future?
Location name. Township or street name. I've seen many dental offi ces named like this but
not ortho offi ces. It is very easy to remember for local residents, least creative.
Random name. This would be a clever, catchy name unrelated to the doctor's name or location.

In the old days, the rule used to be one doctor or two doctors, use the doctor names. Now the
rule seems to be to use a location even if one name, and I think the reason for that is because it
might have some effect on making you more noticeable on Google? Is that right? Can someone
confi rm that? I used to be Charles J. Ruff, DMD; now I am Smiles for Maine. ■

I used a DBA to name my practice when I started up last year. My last name is not a familiar
Anglo or Spanish surname, but that was not the main consideration. I wanted something that was
easy to remember and that would tie into the community. So I named it after the district of the city
I'm in and since I'm near the beach, had my logo and website designed with nautical themes. And
I believe Dr. Ruff might be right in regard to SEO and showing up higher on Google, Bing, etc. ■

Try to name your practice the same name as the city you live in, when possible. This way
Google will rank you high when people search for you. ■
