The real action for the grounds crew
is before the Charlotte Knights take the field.
What sets the North Carolina Charlotte Knights homefield apart from other
fields in AAA Minor League Baseball? The setting. Uptown Charlotte in Center City.
That and three-time, award-winning Sports Turf Field Manager of the year,
Matt Parrott, of course.
John Deere Sports Turf Dealer Representative, Rick Henderson, likes Parrott's
dedication to excellence and his passion for the game. In fact, he believes the
Charlotte skyline is a good backdrop for Parrott. " Kind of compliments Matt's
dedication to make sure that the field is as good as it is. "

Three-time winner and a team player.
What does Parrott think about the three sports turf manager
of the year awards he has won since 2017? His answer is simple.
" Winning without a doubt was a huge honor. It's not something
that we necesarily strive to do, but the recognition is nice. Not
only for myself and our crew, but also our organization. "
Parrott clarified his thinking even more. " It is really more of a
testimony to the hours of work that our crew does. They mean
the world to me and I just can't say enough about how important
they are. "
Safety first. Aesthetics will follow.
Obviously, awards are not what drive Parrott. No, Parrott's real
passion is for player safety. " It's our job to provide our end user
players with the safest, most playable surface that they can have.
If we can achieve safety and playability, the aesthetics come. "
Trusted by the best
Henderson notes that Parrott runs a John Deere 7200A in his
outfield. Mows his infield with a 260SL walk mower. Has a 1200A
infield rake and runs two 2020A ProGators
. One with an HD200
TM
sprayer. Plus, he relies on John Deere On-site Service and Support
for equipment maintenance and care.
Henderson doesn't take Parrott's preference of John Deere
Sports Turf Field Equipment lightly. He considers Parrott to be
among the best in the game. " Trusted by the best to me means
that the best in the industry trust John Deere. "
Or as Parrott puts it, " Having the trust (of the Charlotte Knights)
to provide a safe, playable surface is the most paramount aspect
of my job. It is why I do this. "
