A Review of the Top Trends in Sports Facilities Nationwide
T
he evolution of sports has been going
on ever since the ancient Greeks first
wrestled and raced their way to glory.
And while it's likely those original Olympians
would not recognize some sports currently
being played today, it doesn't make those
new sports any less important. Here are the
trending sports that students are playing.
Haven't been asked about them yet? Don't
worry - you will be.
Flag Football: According to NFL FLAG, which
operates programs nationwide, there are
almost 450 schools, and more than 10,000
girls, participating in flag football across the
country at the high school level. The National
Federation of State High School Associations
has also seen a corresponding rise in the
number of girls playing flag football. That
number is only expected to grow, and those
athletes are likely to bring their game to college
with them.
The National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA) named women's flag as one
of its emerging sports in 2020, and that year,
NAIA had 13 schools, with plans to add an
additional eight to 10 schools. The National
Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
will declare women's flag an emerging sport
in 2023 with the
goal of 15 schools
participating in
year one, and
the interest only
continues to build.
