What to Know Before
You Grow
With experience growing many different horticultural and agricultural
crops, Travis will discuss some of the tricks of the trade as well as
some of the lessons he has learned over the years when it comes to
successfully - and profitably - growing cannabis and hemp. During
his presentation, Travis will talk about some of the best practices he
has implemented, challenges he has encountered and surprises he
didn't anticipate while producing these crops.

ABOUT TRAVIS
Prior to his current position at a medicinal cannabis company, Travis has worked as
an ornamental grower and as a technical advisor for field and greenhouse hemp, and
also provided technical support and services related to lighting for cannabis and
hemp growers. He also owns a horticultural consultancy company, delivering true
horticultural expertise and innovative thinking to the cannabis market. Travis is
also an alumnus of GPN's Forty Under 40 program.

Lighting Up CEA Hemp
Light quantity, quality, and photoperiod
demystified
Indoor hemp is a demanding crop as far as light is concerned.
Neil will begin with a look at the photoperiod (daylength) and
light quantity (daily light integral requirements) for hemp during
propagation, vegetative, and flowering stages. Neil will discuss
research at Cornell University comparing performance and CBD
content of hemp in response to high-pressure sodium and LED
lights. Beyond visible light, far-red or UV light have been much
talked about in terms of boosting crop performance, Neil will
discuss what is known based on the scientific literature.

ABOUT NEIL
Neil joined Cornell in 2007 after completing his PhD from the University of
California Davis and Master's from the University of Minnesota. Neil is the director
of Cornell's Controlled Environment Agriculture group and his research is focused
on optimizing crop performance and resource use efficiency of flower and vegetable
crops. Particular research interests include, strategies to reduce energy use in CEA
lighting through LED adoption and intelligent light controls, sustainable fertilization
practices, and development of new CEA crops. He has authored or co-authored 54
peer-reviewed journal articles, 10 book chapters, 169 Extension articles and has
given more than 300 outreach presentations to more than 16,000 industry members.
