From Reset to Revive FROM THE EDITOR Years from now, we may look back at 2020 and remember it as one of the most unpredictable years in recent history. As if 2020 wasn't challenging enough, 2021 waltzed into our lives just as chaotic and unforgiving as the year before. We went from resetting our way of thinking to reviving a passion that many didn't even know existed. I discovered two interesting facts this year about the horticulture industry. I regularly survey GPN's readers - to better understand overall trends that are occurring and to simply gain insight into overall issues facing the industry. After the 2020 season, I asked growers what type of season they were forecasting for 2021. Not one of you expected this gardening boom to fade. You planned for another exceptional season. Well, it appears you definitely planned accordingly! Another question I asked was as the 2021 season was ending. I wanted to know if your 2021 sales were up, down or about the same compared to 2020 sales. A large majority of you said sales were up, while the remainder mostly said sales were about the same. That's incredible. So, now as we plan for 2022, we have one choice and one choice only. Hear me out: We need to keep this train moving - maybe even pick up a few more passengers to join the ride. And I hope this guide helps. The breeder companies did not take a break in 2020, and that is made evident on the following pages. They have given us outstanding new varieties that will beautify any and all gardens. I wish we had space to share the hundreds of new introductions with you. But we don't. So we compiled some of the standouts that need to be on your radar in 2022 and beyond.
