Sanchez, founder of Houston-based
Gatherings by Curated Paperie, appreciates
time spent around the table. She hails
from Honduras, and her parents are Middle Eastern. The
blend of those cultures shaped her values around family
and togetherness.
" It's two cultures focused on a lot of family celebration,
which is how I grew up. Everything was always around
the table, " Sanchez said. " It's a moment in time where
you come together and you celebrate, and we used to do it
at least weekly. I come from a big family; it's like a party
every day. "
When inspiration struck to open a partyware store,
Sanchez aimed for it to celebrate more than just holidays
and parties - she wanted to reflect the " gathering " aspect
of her upbringing that she values so highly.
" The name to me was very important, " she said. " I made
it not specific to a birthday celebration or a special moment
because every moment is worth celebrating. "
Sanchez launched Gatherings as an online-only shop in
May 2021 after the pandemic reminded her how important
it is to be around people and to not take those everyday
get-togethers for granted. As her online storefront " proved
its concept, " it was time to transition to a brick-andmortar
location.
Gatherings opened its Houston brick-and-mortar
storefront in May 2022, with a grand launch in September
of that year. The company offers myriad party essentials,
including occasion-specific tableware, a balloon bar,
themed birthday packages and gifts. The shop carries
popular partyware lines such as Meri Meri and My Mind's
Eye, as well as unique European lines.
" I'm trying to curate the best of everything because at
the end of the day, we want to be your one-stop shop, "
Sanchez said.
BEYOND RETAIL
In 2023, the company continued to grow and Sanchez
launched her own design line, Curated Paperie.
Curated Paperie
offers paper
tableware
such as
placemats, runners, napkin holders and table accents.
Sanchez and her team design each item to be a beautiful
yet easy and affordable element adorning one's table. The
line includes holiday-specific collections as well as the
Modern Classic line, which can be used for non-holidays
or layered with holiday items to add depth to a tablescape.
" There are no rules anymore of what colors go with
what, and we want to give people a creative outlet to mix
and match however they want to do it, " Sanchez said.
" The classic line along with our seasonals complement
each other. "
