focuses on its Michigan
roots and local products

ichele Johnson, retail manager at Mission
Point Boutique provided Gift Shop® Plus an
inside look at the history and transformation
of the Mission Point Boutique, located at Mission Point
Resort, a popular tourist destination in Michigan's upper
peninsula.
" Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island transcends
time, " according to Johnson. " Recently voted the #1
Island Destination in the Continental United States by
Travel + Leisure Magazine, there is an instant sense of
nostalgia the moment you step off the ferry - a place
where no cars or worries are allowed. " The resort is a
family-owned business and is a destination for tourists
and locals to go to " discover Michigan's crown jewel. "
The resort holds fast to its core values: Michigan
pride, and preserving Michigan and Mackinac Island's
land, people and history. " This shines through the work
we do at the boutique in carrying artwork, clothing,
jewelry and more from local artists and vendors, "
emphasized Johnson.
The resort is home of the Mission Point Boutique,
where the overall core values continue to play an
important role. The retail team consists of three full94

time employees during the busy season, which runs
April through October, and one employee during the
winter. Each employee is either local to Mackinac Island,
or is a resident of the state.
Johnson shared that Mission Point Boutique
experienced a transformation that complements its core
values. " Over the past few seasons, the shop has focused
on staying true to our Michigan roots and focused on
sourcing hyper-local products to offer. We have found
that guests and shoppers love to support local vendors
and have embraced our dedication to supporting local
as much as we can, " she detailed.
Best-sellers at the boutique include women's apparel,
particularly summer dresses. " Mackinac Island is an
iconic summer destination, and sundresses epitomize
the Mackinac Island summer experience, " Johnson said
enthusiastically.
" One of our top selling brands is Freefly, an athleisure
brand that specializes in fabrics made from bamboo
natural fibers. This brand was a key fit for us as one of
our organization's brand pillars is caring for our bodies
- our own bodies, our bodies of water and our bodies of
land. We want to support vendors that have the same
