Market has just wrapped
and left me with myriad

to be exact)
products showcased throughout
the show floors.
One undeniable trend from
the markets this summer: Nature
continues to influence products
across all retail categories. This is seen through textiles,
materials, colors and forms. Perhaps the most prominent
force of nature on display? The coast.
Coastal accents were aplenty this summer buying
season - think wicker, pearl finishes and teak - as were
subdued blues, greens and warm neutrals.
For many, coastal décor is synonymous with summer.
But to the 40% of Americans who live in coastal counties,
waterfront living is not merely a sunny-day getaway - it's
their everyday. Many of these customers seek products that
allow them to commemorate the changing of the seasons
while remaining true to their waterfront lifestyles.
Take the holidays, for example. Coastal twists on traditional
holiday décor allow customers to deck their halls with festive
products that also match their existing interiors. On the
market floors this summer, I witnessed oyster-shell nativity
sets, tropical Santa figurines and sea-glass ornaments.
For fall, wicker pumpkins, chunky knit throws and amber
hues were on display at market to complement the traditional
blues and whites in traditional coastal décor, allowing
customers to seamlessly transition from summer to fall.
While these new approaches to seasonal décor resonate
with waterfront retailers, " everyday coastal " is as strong as
ever. Each designer takes their own signature approach, of
course, but touches of toile, sandstone and seashells were
spotted throughout showrooms.
Ultimately, Americans are moving to the shorelines at
a faster pace than ever, and our industry's retailers are
who they will turn to when they decorate their homes
or buy gifts for loved ones. Retailers are at the heart of
communities across America - and coastal communities
are thriving like never before.
From tabletop to apparel to stationery, I hope Waterfront
Living 2024 provides you fresh, elevated inspiration to add
seaside flair to your store year-round.
