Posterity Paper isn't
grandmother's
stationery. The colorful,
hand-lettered greeting
cards effortlessly mix
nostalgic and modern
illustrations with
thoughtful and witty
sentiments. Creator
Tiffany Grimes was part
of the Greeting Card
Association's Black Makers Pitch Program in 2020 and
says the program was a launchpad for her wholesale and
licensing journey.
" The Black Makers Pitch Program propelled my
business and my confidence in ways I can't fully
put into words, " Grimes said. " I went from an Etsy
shop to licensing my work through Black Joy Paper
and selling wholesale on Faire. I now have over 60
stockists including Paper Source and Barnes and Noble.
Pitching my brand to industry leaders was pivotal to the
success of my business and I'm forever thankful for the
opportunity to participate, " she added.
The program gave nine Black card makers five minutes
on the day of the event to pitch their line, receive
feedback and answer questions. At the same time, more
than 100 other retailers watched the streaming event
live, and many more have since watched the recorded
session. The program was well received by makers and
retailers alike and generated some immediate sales -
but the biggest success story was the Black Joy
Paper collective.

Black Joy Paper features six highly talented designers,
including Grimes, as well as Lauren-Ashley Barnes,
Natalie Henry Charles,
Tiffany McGraw, Amy
Slaughter and Andrea
Williams. Greta Heida,
owner
of
up
AIR Co.,
reached out to each
of the designers and
ended
working
closely with six of them
to develop an all-new
collection of cards,
Black Joy Paper.
" I was so inspired by
the program and these
makers that I began to think about how something
really special could be created with these very talented
artists, " Heida explained. " From the beginning, we
wanted them to have their own unique voices in this
project, express their own views and talent, and also
share with them the advantage of our years of industry
connections and experience, " Heida said. She partnered
with GCA member
Biely + Shoaf to
publish and distribute
the line.
In 2022, Grimes
was one of Stationery
Trends' 10 Designers
to Watch and isn't
slowing down any
time
soon.
She
is
currently working
on completing her
largest order to date -
4,000 cards.
