Calling All Green Industry HR Professionals!

AmericanHort has recently announced the formation
of a new Human Resources (HR) Peer Sharing Group for
the green industry. The purpose of the group is to bring
human resource professionals from across all segments of
the industry together to connect, share ideas and learn from
one another.
This HR Peer Sharing Group came about when two
AmericanHort members, Julie Zeijlmaker of Battlefield
Farms in Rapidan, Virginia, and Margaret Whealdon of
Smith Gardens in Bellingham, Washington, met at the
CareerUP seminar held at Cultivate'18. They both quickly
realized the benefit of having other industry peers with whom
to interact and decided to form a group of HR professionals
working in the horticulture industry. The group operates
under important guiding principles and practices, including
connection, collaboration, sharing, support, and confidentiality.
It is a forum for sharing with one another for the benefit of all.
AmericanHort provides administrative support to the
group, which meets by phone monthly to discuss topics of
interest, share ideas and examine challenges. They also hear
from experts on a variety of important HR topics, such as
EEOC wage reporting, recruiting seasonal employees, and
creating a culture of safety.
" Because our industry struggles with unique challenges
in the area of human resources, the HR Peer Sharing
Group provides an opportunity for peer-to-peer connection
and collaboration on topics of key concern, " said Mary
Beth Cowardin, vice president of marketing and member
engagement at AmericanHort.
The HR Peer Sharing Group continues to grow and is
seeking new members. Open to HR professionals from
AmericanHort member companies, individuals who want
to learn from and share with industry peers should consider
