Pinterest - Is it
for You?

Are you on Pinterest? Should you be? Is it the right platform
for your business? These are all good questions. Let's answer
a few!
As Pinterest says, " People use Pinterest to find tomorrow's
ideas, " making it an excellent lead generator to connect you
with the right audience. 89% of U.S. users use Pinterest for
inspiration in their path to purchase. Pinterest is less like a social
media platform and more like a search engine similar to Google
and YouTube, with one in two U.S. millennials and one in every
four people on it. Interestingly, the National Garden Bureau
has found that Pinterest is the top external traffic-driver to our
website. Fun fact: right now, it is easier to rank high on Pinterest
for keywords than the other two search engines.
But does it work for local companies like yours? It can.
To get notice in the world of Pinterest you need to remember
one thing: keyword search. This is what people type into the
search bar - and the searches you want to come up for. What
is the biggest keyword you want to add? Your location, your city
and state, and your name!
Brand Your Profile
In your profile, you can set your location, address, phone, and
website. When writing your profile description, be sure to add
your location (city and state) again. You also want to verify your
website and get that green checkmark next to your website,
showing that you are " Pinterest verified. "
Brand Your Boards
When creating your boards, add your location name not only
in the description but also in the board title. For example: Best
Shrubs for (your area) or Veggies That Do Best in (your city or
area), etc. Make the boards about what you carry and answer the
questions that are a concern for your audience. Do you have a
company blog? Be sure to make a board highlighting those posts.
A board showing your store and personnel is always fun.
Brand Your Pins
To succeed, you need great images. These images should have a 2:3
ratio; for example, an image 600 x 900 pixels. Use a graphic design
platform like Canva, PicMonkey or Photoshop for excellent and easy
results. Then add an overlay with the photo name or " teaser " for
better click-through. But beware, it can become addicting!
Make sure your pin description is keyword filled throughout.
Always add your name and location to the end of each description.
Add at least five to 10 pins to each board for best results. Be
sure to pin regularly to generate new content and new search
results. Don't forget videos - their popularity continues to rise.
