Bailey Announces Management
Promotions
Bailey has announced the promotion of Shane Brockshus
and Alec Charais to the newly created positions of chief
operations officer and chief marketing and product
development officer, respectively.
Marc McCormack will continue leading company-wide sales
direction and sales leadership development, now as chief sales
officer. Additionally, Ofelia Wegley has joined Bailey as chief
human resources officer.
" We are looking forward to having Shane, Alec and Ofelia in
their new positions, contributing to setting direction for the
future of our company, " said Terri McEnaney, chief executive
officer. " Shane and Alec have been with Bailey for 20 years and
have continually shown themselves as strong leaders who
bring creative, thoughtful, and impactful ideas to the table
and make them happen. Ofelia joins our company with two
decades of experience within and outside the horticulture
industry, bringing our human resources team great insight
and direction. "
Elevating these key business functions to a more senior
level complements the existing management structure led
by McEnaney, chief financial officer John Bailey, and chief
information officer Pat Bailey.
" As we developed long-term strategic plans, it became
evident that these positions and individuals were the right
fit, " McEnaney said. " Having the right voices at the table is
important for future success, and we are grateful and excited
to have Shane, Alec, Ofelia, and Marc share their expertise.
They will have a positive impact on the Bailey organization and
bring a well-rounded vision of customer advocacy to ensure
that our customers continue to be at the forefront of our
decision making. "
These new roles are effective immediately, with Shane
continuing to work at the company's West Coast facilities
for the immediate future before relocating to Bailey's
headquarters in Minnesota. Alec and Ofelia are already based
out of the Minnesota headquarters.
Jonathan Pedersen Named New
Monrovia CEO
The Board of
Monrovia Nursery
Co. has announced
the appointment of
Jonathan Pedersen as
the company's new chief
executive officer. Pedersen
succeeds Miles Rosedale,
who stepped down at the
end of 2020 to focus on
his role as co-chairman of
the Board of Directors.
Pedersen is a highly experienced leader in the horticultural
industry. He joined Monrovia as vice president of business
development and intellectual property in 2013. After
achieving record growth in that area, he became vice
president of sales and business development in 2019.
" Jonathan brings a depth of experience and a fresh

perspective at an exciting time for Monrovia. He is an ideal
leader to oversee this world-class horticultural organization
with a heritage dating back to1926 that has never stopped
innovating, " says Chris Kroes, co-chairman of the Board of
Directors. " His deep industry knowledge and institutional
tenure makes Jonathan uniquely qualified to lead Monrovia
successfully into the future. "
Pedersen's decades of experience in the industry
also include various other roles in sales, marketing and
operations at Bailey Nurseries and Linder's Greenhouses.
In his past years with Monrovia, he has been responsible
for some of the most significant plant introductions in the
country.
Burpee Releases 2021 Gardening
Trend Forecast
Burpee recently launched the 2021 Burpee GardenCast,
its first-ever gardening trend forecast. Informed by cultural
trends and industry predictions, Burpee's GardenCast offers
valuable information that will inspire novice and expert
home gardeners.
" We estimate more than 18 million new gardeners
entered the category in 2020, " says George Ball, Burpee
executive chairman. " As they enter their second year,
Burpee wants to guide them to garden with confidence.
Through the trends highlighted in the GardenCast, new and
seasoned gardeners alike will be inspired as they explore
new ideas this year. "
Burpee leveraged a panel of internal and external experts
to craft the 2021 GardenCast, including Ball himself and
former Royal Horticulture Society judge Simon Crawford.
HGTV star Kelly Edwards added her expertise in the décor
space, and registered dietitian Marisa Moore, MBA. RDN.
LD. contributed nutritional expertise to the project.
Based on insights gleaned from the past 12 months, the
Burpee GardenCast panel identified five emerging trends
for 2021:
* The Quiet Garden: A calming garden full of blue and
lilac impatiens and ornamental grasses like carex and
pancium provides soothing hues and gentle sounds
that lull you into a peaceful state of mind.
* Garden of Joy: A flower bed full of bright " faces and
eyes, " including pansy and viola, is sure to inspire many
smiles of pure happiness.
* World Herb Garden: Easy-to-grow herbs like basil,
dill and cilantro satisfy your wanderlust without
ever leaving your own backyard and add punchy
international flavors to your recipes.
* Rise of Meatless Monday: Embrace plant-based eating
with a garden full of innovative, Burpee exclusive
vegetables with dense flesh and succulent textures like
summer squash, eggplant and turnips - fresh and
flavorful additions to meatless meals.
* The Immunity Garden: Get healthy in your own
backyard with a garden full of vibrant vegetables like
winter squash, radishes and tomatoes, all of which
can help you fully commit to a nutrient-rich diet to
strengthen your immune system.
