greens only needing 40 to
70 days to reach maturity
(even less for baby greens)
this edible is one of the
quickest turnaround crops
possible. Transplants or
larger " bowls " of greens can
be a great impulse buy for
customers who may like the
idea of growing their own
healthy salad. Educating your
customers on succession
planting will keep them
coming back for more.
With so many types of salad
greens to choose from, you
can educate and cater to every
personality and taste:
* Asteraceae family:
Lettuce, chicory,
dandelion greens
* Amaranthaceae family:
Spinach
* Brassicaceae family:
Arugula, kale, mustard
greens
Also: Asian greens, chard,
herbs, and beet and turnip tops
Houseplant: Peperomia
I purposely left our new
houseplant category for last.
This category is another one
that has benefited from the
COVID quarantine as well as
the surge in interest from
millennials.
Even before COVID, the
out-of-college-but-not-yetparents
group found caring
for plants very soothing
and purposeful. It became
a hobby and a passion that
contributed to their mental
and physical health then
became part of their daily
routine, fueled by social media

posts?). Seeing the array
of houseplants available by
following Instagrammers has
certainly encouraged other
wannabe plant parents to give
this nurturing hobby a try. Then
when everyone started working
from home, it was a perfect
storm of a rising tide of interest
along with an outlet and
solution during stressful times.
The National Garden Bureau
board of directors decided
now was the time to support
the trend while educating and
inspiring everyone to try their
hand at houseplants and other
indoor plants.
