Rodale invests $2M in organic land access
Rodale Institute, the global leader of regenerative
organic agriculture, is " putting its money where its mouth
is " by investing $2 million with Iroquois Valley Farmland
Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).
The Board of
Directors at Rodale
Institute approved
the decision to
invest a portion of
the organization's
endowment
fund and general
operating budget
with Iroquois Valley
in an effort to increase land access for organic farmers
across the country and boost organic acreage.
Iroquois Valley, a farmland finance company, works
with mission-driven investors to provide organic and
regenerative farmers land security through long-term
leases and mortgages. It seeks to break down land-access
barriers by purchasing farmland and entering into a
lease agreement or underwriting a mortgage for growers
starting or expanding their farms.
The investment makes Rodale Institute one of the top
five shareholders in Iroquois Valley.
PMA Fresh Summit positive on
organic produce
PMA Fresh Summit, a virtual trade show that ran
Oct. 13-15, was upbeat on the state of the organic
produce market.
Organic Produce
Network President and
CEO Matt Seeley spoke in
a panel discussion entitled
" Resiliency and Rebound "
about how the produce
industry was weathering the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Matt Seeley
When asked about where the industry was headed, he
was also positive about the future.
" Eating at home - I think that that trend will
continue, obviously, until the food industry gets back
on its feet, " Seeley said. " And that provides some great
opportunities for those of us who are in organic produce
to try new items. There have been some items that have
skyrocketed in sales. "

Efficacy of organic fertilizer researched
The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF)
has awarded an $18,289 grant to Kate Scow, director
of the Russell Ranch Sustainable Agriculture Facility at
the University
of California
Davis, to
evaluate the
costs and
benefits of using organic-approved liquid injectable
fertilizers to improve nutrient uptake and yields in
tomato crops.
Scott Park, owner/operator of Park Farming Organics,
will advise on product comparisons and review economic
analysis results to ensure wide applicability to tomato
growers.
The research team will use organically managed
plots at the Russell Ranch facility to compare nitrogen
(N) uptake, fruit yields, and the profitability of three
representative types of organic liquid fertilizers (fish
emulsion, compost tea, and microbial/amino acid
injectables) via fertigation in organic tomatoes.
