New Fort Jackson fitness center reflective of the shift in Army culture

T
he soldiers and drill sergeants at Fort
Jackson, SC, have a new place to improve
their fitness levels with the opening of the Drill
Sergeant Timothy Kay Soldier Performance
Readiness Center (SPRC) in 2023.
More than just a gym, the SPRC serves as a hub
for all five domains of the Army's Holistic Health
and Fitness (H2F) system, which includes physical,
mental, nutrition, sleep, and spiritual readiness.
The facility has spaces for H2F education
classes, specialized strength and power training,
physical therapy, and individualized coaching and

counseling from the H2F Performance Team that
is open throughout the duty day.
The SPRC puts subject matter experts from
the H2F teams under one roof, including strength
coaches, athletic trainers, dieticians, occupational
therapists, physical therapists, and chaplains.
Joe Cruz, the H2F Program Director for the
165th Infantry Brigade, said having a one-stop
shop for soldiers' physical and non-physical
wellness improves the access to care for
soldiers while allowing the H2F team to take an
interdisciplinary approach.
