DIAGRAM 1
DePaul is a set play that's run
against man-to-man defenses. We've
successfully used it the last five years
to create scoring opportunities for
talented wing players who can score
on the block, and also knock down a
wide open 3-pointer. In this play, 2 is
a multitalented player who can score
inside and from the perimeter.
DIAGRAM 1: The play starts from
a box set. As 1 initiates the action, 4
and 5 downscreen for 2 and 3.
DIAGRAM 2: After passing to 2,
1 cuts to the right corner. As this
occurs, 4 flashes to the high-post
area.
DIAGRAM 3: Even though this is
a set play run for 2, we never pass
up an opportunity to pass to post
players. 2 could pass to 5 on the
block for a low-post shot, or 2
could pass to 4 at the high post. 4
then looks inside to 5 for a high-low
post pass.
DIAGRAM 4: If 4 does not pass to
5, they reverse the ball to 3 on the
left wing. On the pass, 5 backscreens
for 2, who cuts to the left low block.
If 2 is open, 3 passes inside to 2 for
a high-percentage shot.
DIAGRAM 5: After 2 cuts off of
5's backscreen, 4 and 5 set a double
staggered screen for 1, who cuts to
the top of the key. If 2 is not open, 3
passes to 1 on the top of the key.
DIAGRAM 6: On the pass from 3
to 1, 4 and 5 set a staggered double
screen along the baseline for 2,
who cuts to the right corner for a
potential 3-point shot. 4 and 5 could
step into the lane after their screens
for a possible pass from the top if
their defenders try to help off too
much on 2.
DIAGRAM 7: If no shot develops
from the play, we're in a three-out,
two-in set and flow right into one of
our offenses.
