the rebound, and passes to 2. After
shooting off the catch, we have the
players shot fake and drive, and shoot
pull-up jumpers.
Drill No. 7: 50-second drill
The last shooting drill we use pairs
up players on as many baskets as we
have available.
DIAGRAM 16: The drill begins
with 1 cutting and touching the right
sideline. 1 then runs hard to the freethrow-line
area for a catch-and-shoot
off the pass.
DIAGRAM 17: After 1 shoots, 2
retrieves the ball and waits for 1 to
run and touch the left sideline before
breaking back to the free-throw area
for another jumper. We can vary
the drill by having players shoot
3-pointers off the pass or shot fake
and shoot a pull-up jumper. After 50
seconds, the shooter and rebounder
switch spots.
We run drill No. 1 in every
line. 1 rebounds the shot and goes
into the passer line.
DIAGRAM 10: 2 breaks to the
left elbow to receive a pass from 6.
We occasionally incorporate 3-point
shooting into this drill.
Drill No. 5: Three-man, two-ball
spot shooting
DIAGRAM 11: The shooter (1) cuts
to the corner for a pass. After the pass
is made, the rebounder (2) passes the
second ball to the passer (3).
DIAGRAM 12: After 1 takes a
shot from the corner, they break up
to the wing area for a shot. After
45 seconds, the passer becomes
the shooter, the shooter becomes
the rebounder, and the rebounder
becomes the passer. We work three
areas in this drill: right corner and
right wing; left corner and left wing;
and elbow to elbow.
Drill No. 6: Three-man, two-ball
rotation shooting
In this drill, the three players will
constantly rotate to a new spot.
DIAGRAM 13: 1 shoots, follows
the shot, and passes the ball to 3.
DIAGRAM 14: 2 shoots, follows
the shot, and passes to 1, who has
moved to a new spot on the floor.
DIAGRAM 15: 3 shoots, secures
practice session. We then select one
drill from drills two to four, and
one drill from numbers five through
seven. We want to have variety
in our shooting drills and, as you
can see, the drills we use are easy
to learn. What's important is that
players work hard and concentrate
on every shot they take during
every drill.
